RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – With an investment of more than 2,5 billion euros (2.5 billion dollars), the Maraey Rio de Janeiro project will employ 50,000 people who will build four five-star hotels and residential buildings.

Maraey, the largest residential and tourism complex in South America, located 45 kilometers from Rio de Janeiro, with a total investment of more than 2.5 billion euros, has just received the construction permit that will allow the development of a new concept of urban planning and architecture for sustainable development.

The project is managed and sponsored by the Spanish group IDB Brasil.

This ambitious and modern complex resulted from years of effort by two Spanish companies behind IDB Brasil. Spanish groups Cetya and Abacus are behind the project, wcreating50,000 jobs during the construction phase and 36,000 permanent jobs once operational.

The project is located in an area of extremely high ecological value and is expected to become Brazil’s leading sustainable tourism destination. Maraey is a natural paradise, more than 90 percent surrounded by water, with 12 kilometers of coastline and 8.5 kilometers of pristine Atlantic beach.

The project calls for the construction of four five-star hotels, including a beachfront convention center and a luxury resort built around an 18-hole golf course.

The promoters of the project are not modest in the least. According to them, Maraey aims to become a worldwide example of sustainable tourism,  a unique hospitality training hub in Latin America, Brazil’s most stunning real estate development, and a cluster of innovation and new technologies development.

BEHIND THE SCENE

IDB, the company that owns the Maraey project, is made up of an international businessmen group – Spanish, Brazilian, US, and Chinese – led by the Cetya Group and the Abacus Group, with more than 40 years of professional background in construction, engineering, design, exploitation and production of raw materials, as well as in development and management of real estate and hotel projects.
