Spain’s Iberia increases number of flights to Uruguay in response to increased demand

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Spanish airline will add two additional frequencies between Madrid and Montevideo. This will increase the weekly offer to five flights and underlines Iberia’s commitment to this market.

The flights will be operated with the company’s Airbus A330-200 aircraft, which can accommodate 288 passengers in two classes (J19 and 269). The increased operation will be accompanied by a special offer campaign.

Montevideo was the first route on which Iberia, together with IATA, introduced the new IATA Travel Pass application. This allows passengers to store and verify health documents.

This increase in service is part of the airline’s program to restore its services (before the pandemic, there was one daily flight to the Uruguayan capital). The flight schedules are as follows:

We hope that this capacity increase on this important day will help reactivate demand and that we will soon be able to return to the number of flights we had before the pandemic began.”

IBERIA’S OFFER FOR SOUTH AMERICA

According to information obtained through Cirium, the Spanish airline currently flies to ten destinations in South America, all from its base at Madrid-Barajas Airport:

Montevideo: five times weekly
Buenos Aires: daily*
Lima: daily
Bogotá: nine flights per week
Cali: two flights per week
Caracas: one flight per week**
Quito: five flights per week
Guayaquil: three flights per week
São Paulo: daily flight
Santiago: daily

*Due to entry restrictions into Argentina, there are fewer flights into Argentina than out of the country. Currently, only two to three flights per week are allowed to carry passengers to the southern country.

**Although these flights are listed as available in the system, they are not currently operating due to the situation in Venezuela.

Rio de Janeiro and Medellin were active prior to the pandemic. To date, flights to these destinations have not resumed.
