The Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo (Alesp) approved in the extraordinary session on Wednesday night ()10 the new minimum wage in São Paulo.
Now, the value throughout the state will be R$1,550 (US$314.15).
Governor Tarcísio de Freitas had proposed an increase of about 20% in São Paulo’s minimum wage at the beginning of the month.
With the approval of Alesp, he must sanction the law.
Bill 704/2023 ends the difference between the two workers’ ranges, who currently receive R$1,284 and R$1,306.
They will now receive the same salary value: R$1,550.
The lower salary band will have a readjustment of 20.7%, and the higher, 18.7%.
Thus, many professional categories that do not have salary floors defined by federal law or collective agreements will now receive the value of the readjusted São Paulo minimum wage.
Created in 2007, the minimum wage in São Paulo allows São Paulo workers to receive salaries above the national minimum.
São Paulo’s minimum wage is 17.4% higher than the federal one.
Announced on May 1st by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Brazil’s minimum wage is R$1,320.
