São Paulo Mayor confirms the return of the New Year’s Eve party at Avenida Paulista in 2022

The traditional New Year’s Eve party will return to be held at Avenida Paulista this New Year’s Eve, according to a statement by the Mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes, to Folha de São Paulo.

The celebration had not been held for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The program is still being confirmed by the Municipal Secretariat of Culture and should be released soon.

The recent increase in the number of cases of coronavirus infection, for the time being, should not hinder the celebrations.

Recently, the concern with transmission led the City Hall to restart the mandatory use of masks in public transportation.

According to Nunes, no restriction has been issued yet by the Health Agency, and the city hall is monitoring the situation.

At the beginning of the year, Carnaval was postponed for two months because of the increase in the number of cases.

The last time Paulista Avenue hosted an end-of-year party was at the turn of 2020, with an audience of more than 2 million people.

The event moved about R$ 650 (US$122) million.

Names like Lulu Santos, Anavitória, Marcos and Belutti, and Chiclete com Banana were among the attractions.
