São Paulo governor signs decree forcing state servants to prove vaccination

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – São Paulo governor João Doria on Monday, January 3, signed a decree requiring all public servants in the state to provide proof of full vaccination against Covid-19. The measure will be published in this Tuesday’s edition of the State Gazette.

The decree must be met by next Sunday, January 9, and covers about 570,000 professionals in direct and indirect administration bodies in São Paulo. Proof of vaccination will not be demanded should the servant present a medical certificate confirming some contraindication related to the vaccine.

The documents must be electronically forwarded to departmental bodies and anyone who fails to meet the deadline will be subject to disciplinary sanctions in internal administrative proceedings.

According to the state government, other complementary rules may also be issued according to the needs of each State Department or indirect administration body.

So far, over 84 million doses against Covid-19 have been administered in São Paulo, and 95% of the state’s adult population has completed the vaccination scheme.
