RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In commemoration of the 130th anniversary of Paulista Avenue, starting tomorrow (8), many Paulista cultural institutions will promote online and in-person celebrations at the seven institutions: Casa das Rosas, Fiesp Cultural Center, IMS Paulista, Itaú Cultural, Japan House São Paulo, MASP and Sesc Avenida Paulista.

Below is the program of scheduled events through Sunday (12).

IMS PAULISTA

One hundred thirty years of history in the IMS collection. To celebrate 130 years of Paulista Avenue, we will talk about the history of its creation, about the changes that transformed it into the avenue we know today, and about some crucial episodes during this period.

From a residential area of the emerging bourgeoisie to a financial, commercial, cultural, and civic center, today Paulista attracts all kinds of people for the most varied activities. Learning more about the avenue’s trajectory can become a practice of citizenship: delving into the past to prepare for the future since the process of constant change does not end in 2021.

Online talk with Andrea Ronqui. 12/8 from 6 PM to 7:30 PM. Online event with no need for previous registration. Live broadcasting on YouTube and IMS’ Facebook Rating: All ages.

ITAÚ CULTURAL

Occupation Benjamim de Oliveira: The Occupation Benjamim de Oliveira is a live exhibition that dives into the universe of the circus in Brazil in the 19th and 20th centuries, based on the story of Benjamin de Oliveira.

Born in Pará de Minas (MG), son of an enslaved woman and a farm foreman, he ran away from home at the age of 12 with a circus troupe and became one of the most influential men for the development and modernization of this art in Brazil.

The only clue is a note hanging on each bag with a spoiler for the book. This season, the books were indicated by five guests, Silvero Pereira, Dona Jacira, Chico Felitti, Katú Mirim, and Letícia Rodrigues.
