Full Rundown
The second of two consecutive sold-out nights at the lona. Nação Zumbi celebrates 30 years of “Afrociberdelia” — the 1996 second album produced by paulistano Eduardo Bidlovski (BID) and the last studio record led by Chico Science before his death in February 1997 at 30. The album took manguebeat — the Recife-born movement that fused maracatu drums with rock, hip-hop, dub and electronics — to its commercial and aesthetic peak. The remaining lineup — Jorge Du Peixe (vocals), Lúcio Maia (guitar), Pupillo (drums), Toca Ogan, Gira and Gilmar Bola 8 — has carried the catalogue forward for three decades. Tonight’s set revisits “Manguetown”, “Maracatu Atômico”, “Etnia”, “Quando a Maré Encher” and the title track. Saturday opener: BNegão — the carioca rapper-vocalist (ex-Planet Hemp’s Cabeça de Nego, leader of BNegão e Os Seletores de Frequência), a contemporary fellow-traveller of the manguebeat circle. Pista runs DJ Lencinho. Doors at 20h. Sold out — esgotado em ambos os dias per the casa de shows. The lona is at R. dos Arcos s/n in Lapa, capacity 2,200, and the post-show release directly into the Lapa avenida system feeds the rest of the night’s circuit.
The heavy show of the night, three blocks from Circo Voador. Black Pantera — the Uberaba (Minas Gerais) trio formed in 2014, the first all-Afro-Brazilian crossover-thrash band of national reach — celebrates the launch of “Resistência! Ao Vivo no Circo Voador”, their first audiovisual, released yesterday (Friday May 8) on Deck. The record was captured at a previous Circo Voador show; tonight’s celebration moves up R. dos Arcos to the Cordão da Bola Preta casarão on R. da Relação 03 — the same building that hosts the legendary Carnaval bloco of the same name (founded 1918, now ~2 million followers each Carnaval Saturday). Lineup: Charles Gama (guitar/vocals), Chaene da Gama (bass), Rodrigo “Pancho” Augusto (drums). Catalogue politically explicit — racism, discrimination, the songs “Fogo nos Racistas” and “Cola” most recent singles. The promised format: sem grade, stage dive liberado, roda punk. Carioca openers Imundos, Punhal, Gadelha Superdrive. Show runs from 19h to 01h Sunday. Tickets R$70 + R$7 taxa (2º lote antecipado) via Articket. Production by Tomarock. 18+.
The casarão’s full Saturday — split between the day feijoada and the night programme. Day: house opens at 12h, the buffet de feijoada à vontade is served 13h–16h in the Pavilhão da Cultura with the carnes nobres (costela, lombo, carne seca, paio), arroz branco, farofa, couve, linguicinha acebolada, aipim frito, laranja — plus the vegan tofu-and-vegetable option. Live music with Nando do Cavaco or Adilson da Vila on rotation, three one-hour sets between 13h and 17h. The day closes at 18h. Night: re-opens at 20h with the full three-floor Saturday format — Palco Scenarium for the headline shows, Salão Anexo for samba/gafieira/chorinho, Palco Dolores for the late DJ. Runs to 03h Sunday. Tickets R$70 antecipado for the day include the feijoada buffet; night tickets separate. Three floors at full Saturday capacity, the casarão voted by The Guardian among the world’s 10 best bars, R. do Lavradio 20.
The Copacabana option, two-tier Saturday. Feijoada Raiz runs 14h–17h on the calçadão / piano bar level — free entry, no reservation, with the regular Blue Note buffet feijoada and the resident Saturday band Amigos da Cacilda, the Favela Brass-trained fanfarra crew that has become a fixture of carioca carnival street parade circuit. House opens at 11h. The 22h30 evening show in the salão de shows requires a ticket; the Eventim listing for tonight currently flags “ingressos voando”, so book ahead — programmation announced day-of via the casa’s social channels. The room runs the standard Blue Note format: tables, gastronomia, attentive listening. Address Av. Atlântica 1910, eighth floor, with the Copacabana praia view through the windows behind the stage. Metro Cantagalo or Siqueira Campos, plus extensive piano bar / calçadão programme before and between shows for those who want the venue without the ticketed set.
The Saturday Lapa samba spine. Carioca da Gema opens at 21h Saturday — different from the Friday 18h door — and runs the headline show through to 04h Sunday. Mesas guaranteed until 21h30; after that the salão runs livre with no seating guarantee but the room never empties before close. The Happy Hour summer-2026 promotions (caipirinha dose dupla, R$12.99 cervejas, 50% porções) carry through Saturday in the bar areas. Av. Mem de Sá 79; Fever for mesas, walk-in for the salão. Beco do Rato on R. Joaquim Silva 11 runs its Saturday roda from 18h through 02h — the smaller, more local Lapa option, good fallback when Carioca da Gema and Rio Scenarium peak too loud. Both venues sit within three blocks of Circo Voador and Cordão da Bola Preta, so the post-show pivot from either heavy show into the late samba room is two minutes on foot.
The Saúde Saturday roda. Pedra do Sal runs Friday through Monday, free, outdoor, on the cobblestones at Largo João da Baiana in the Pequena África district. Saturday is the second-easiest of the four active nights (Monday’s canonical roda is the busiest; Friday-Saturday-Sunday are smaller and more navigable). Tonight’s roda gathers from 18h, builds through the evening and runs past midnight on the bar terraces around the largo. Bars and barracas handle food and drink (cash works best, low prices, caipirinha and cerveja). The site itself is recognised as Território Remanescente de Quilombo Urbano by the Fundação Cultural Palmares (2005) and as carioca cultural patrimony — the place where Tia Ciata, Donga and Pixinguinha gathered in the early 20th century to develop the genre. Sturdy shoes for the cobblestones. Phone in front pocket. The return is by taxi from the Largo, not on foot through Centro after midnight.
Suggested Route

Plan B
Getting Around
Lapa cluster (Circo Voador, Cordão da Bola Preta, Carioca da Gema, Rio Scenarium, Beco do Rato): Metro Cinelândia or Carioca — both walking distance to all five rooms. Cordão da Bola Preta on R. da Relação 03 is closer to Carioca; Circo Voador on R. dos Arcos closer to Cinelândia. Blue Note Rio (Copacabana): Metro Cantagalo or Siqueira Campos. Pedra do Sal (Saúde): Metro Uruguaiana then 10–15 minute walk through Centro to Largo João da Baiana — for the return, take a taxi from the Largo, do not walk back through Centro after midnight. Weather: Hot dry Saturday — 31 °C, 10 % rain. Light clothing; hydrate at the rooms. Sunday turns: 26 °C, 35 % rain. Monday cold front: 21 °C, 65 % rain — Saturday is the last warm-night option for outdoor Lapa pavement-sitting and Pedra do Sal cobblestone roda. Ride-hailing: 99 and Uber operate normally with predictable Saturday surge after midnight in Lapa and Copacabana — wait five minutes after the show ends and prices ease. Safety: Standard Lapa Saturday — no event lockdowns, no Av. Atlântica closures. The main avenues — Mem de Sá, dos Arcos, do Lavradio, da Relação — are busy and well-lit until 04h. Phone in front pocket; no visible jewellery; the cross-streets between the avenidas thin out after midnight. Rio de Janeiro tonight runs at full ordinary Saturday capacity — the city moves normally.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are tickets still available for Nação Zumbi at Circo Voador on May 9, 2026?
No. Both nights of the Nação Zumbi “Afrociberdelia 30 Anos” run at Circo Voador — Friday May 8 and Saturday May 9, 2026 — are sold out. The Saturday show features BNegão opening with DJ Lencinho on pista; doors 20h. The 1996 album celebrates 30 years and is the last studio record led by Chico Science before his death in February 1997. Resale platforms apply at buyer’s risk; the casa has not announced extra dates.
What is the Black Pantera show at Cordão da Bola Preta?
It is the Rio launch show for “Resistência! Ao Vivo no Circo Voador”, the band’s first audiovisual, released Friday May 8, 2026 on Deck. The crossover-thrash trio from Uberaba — Charles Gama, Chaene da Gama and Rodrigo “Pancho” Augusto — plays Cordão da Bola Preta at R. da Relação 03 on Saturday May 9 from 19h to 01h. Carioca openers Imundos, Punhal and Gadelha Superdrive support. Tickets R$70 + R$7 fee via Articket. Sem grade, stage dive liberado, roda punk. 18+.
When is the Rio Scenarium Saturday feijoada?
Rio Scenarium opens at 12h on Saturday May 9, 2026, with the full feijoada buffet served à vontade from 13h to 16h in the Pavilhão da Cultura. Live music with Nando do Cavaco or Adilson da Vila on rotation, three one-hour sets from 13h to 17h. The day session closes at 18h; the night programme reopens at 20h and runs to 03h Sunday across three floors. Tickets antecipados from R$70 include the buffet. Address R. do Lavradio 20 in Lapa.
Is Pedra do Sal busier on Saturday or Monday?
Monday is significantly busier. The canonical Pedra do Sal roda runs Mondays from 19h to midnight and has done so for over 20 years; it draws thousands and is recognised as the city’s defining weekly samba gathering. Saturday’s roda from 18h is one of the four Friday-to-Monday active nights and is smaller, with an easier crowd to navigate. Both are free, outdoor and on the cobblestones at Largo João da Baiana in Saúde.
How do I get from Cordão da Bola Preta to Carioca da Gema after the Black Pantera show?
It is a five-minute walk. Cordão da Bola Preta sits at R. da Relação 03 in the Lapa-Centro border; Carioca da Gema is at Av. Mem de Sá 79, three short blocks south on the main Lapa avenida. The route is well-lit and busy with Saturday crowd until 04h. No metro or taxi needed. The same applies for the walk between Cordão da Bola Preta and Circo Voador (R. dos Arcos), Rio Scenarium (R. do Lavradio 20) and Beco do Rato (R. Joaquim Silva 11) — all within a six-block radius.
