Rio de Janeiro: highest number of femicides in six years

By · March 8, 2023 · 1 min read

The Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro recorded 110 murders of women last year.

This is evidenced by data from the Institute for Public Security (ISP), which reports to the state government.

That’s the highest number since 2017, the first full year since crime has been recorded in the state.

Compared to 2017, the first full year since crime has been recorded in the state, the increase is 61.8%

Comparing the figures with those of 2021 shows an increase of 29.4% (or 25 more cases).

Compared to 2017, the increase is 61.8% (42 more cases).

The dossier also records the occurrence of 293 attempted murders of women in 2022, an increase of 11% (29 cases) compared to the previous year (264 entries).
