RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Located in Rio de Janeiro’s traditional Lapa district, the Museum showcases part of the broadcasting station’s original collection, founded in 1936. Rádio Nacional do Rio de Janeiro will celebrate its 85th anniversary on the air next September 12.
Despite the inauguration, there are still no plans to open the space for in-person visits by the public. The Museum revives auditorium programs that propelled famed artists Orlando Silva, Ataulfo Alves, Dalva de Oliveira, Nelson Gonçalves, Cauby Peixoto, Luiz Gonzaga, and many others.
Rádio Nacional was also a pioneer in radio journalism with the show “O Repórter Esso,” aired between 1941 and 1968. With the slogan “the eyewitness of history,” the radio news show served as a model for other news programs and would celebrate its 80th anniversary on August 28.
