PoderData survey: 46% think that life will get better in the next 6 months in Brazil

PoderData survey conducted from January 29 to 31, 2023, shows that 46% of Brazilians think life will improve in the next 6 months.

The rate of optimists is stable compared to the survey carried out in December 2022 – it oscillated 2 percentage points upwards, within the survey’s margin of error (2 p.p.).

Those who think life will worsen over the next six months decreased from 26% to 19% in one and a half months.

These voters migrated to the part of the population that thinks there will be no change. They were 20% in December; today, they are 26%.

Another 9% did not know how to answer the questionnaire.

The survey was carried out by PoderData, a company of the Poder360 Jornalismo group, with its own resources.

The data were collected from January 29 to 31, 2023, through calls to cell phones and landlines.

There were 2,500 interviews in 288 cities in the 27 states of the Federation.

The margin of error is 2 percentage points. The confidence interval is 95%.

To reach 2,500 interviews that proportionally fill out (as they appear in society) the groups by sex, age, income, education, and geographical location, PoderData makes tens of thousands of phone calls.

Often, it takes more than 100,000 calls until it finds the interviewees who faithfully represent the entire population.

DEMOGRAPHIC HIGHLIGHTS

Poder360 highlights:

• 16- to 24-year-olds (56%) and residents of the Northeast region (58%) are more optimistic about their life situation in the next semester;
• residents of the Midwest region (39%) and people who have attended higher education (34%) are more pessimistic and think life will worsen in the next 6 months.

FUTURE X APPROVAL OF THE GOVERNMENT

• Today, 3 out of 4 people (75%) who approve of the Lula da Silva government believe life will improve in the next 6 months. In this group, only 1% perceive a worsening scenario in the period.
• Those who disapprove are more divided: 47% are pessimistic, 33% think life will stay the same, and 10% project an improvement.

METHODOLOGY

The PoderData survey was carried out from January 29 to 31, 2023. We interviewed 2,500 people aged 16 or more in 288 municipalities in the 27 units of the Federation.

A parametric weighting was applied to compensate for disproportionalities in the variables of gender, age, level of education, region, and income.

The margin of error is 2 percentage points higher or lower.

The interviews were conducted by telephone (for landlines and cell phones), using the IVR system (Audible Response Unit).

The interviewee listens to recorded questions and answers through the device’s keyboard. The study’s confidence interval is 95%.

To make it easier to read, the survey results were rounded. Because of this process, the sum of some results may differ from 100.

Differences between the total frequencies and percentages in variable crossover tables may appear because of non-response occurrences.
