Paraguayan anti-drug agents destroy 11.4 tons of marijuana in nature reserve
Special anti-drug agents in Paraguay successfully eradicated 11.4 tons of marijuana within the “La Paraguaya” Nature Reserve, situated in the border region of Amambay.
The National Anti-Drug Secretariat (Senad) reported the operation.
Based on intelligence and monitoring efforts, the authorities discovered a drug production and storage facility in a wooded area.
They proceeded to eliminate 3 hectares of cannabis cultivation, equivalent to 9,000 kilograms of the drug at the growing stage.
Five makeshift camps were also discovered during the operation, containing 2,400 kilograms of processed marijuana, which were destroyed.
The operation was conducted by specialized agents from Senad’s Strategic Intelligence Directorate, stationed in Pedro Juan Caballero, the capital of the region mentioned above.
They received support from Anti-Drug Prosecutor Celso Morales.
According to the report, the estimated loss for transnational drug trafficking networks in Paraguayan territory is US$342,000.
However, since Brazil is the primary destination for drugs produced in Paraguay, this sum could increase fivefold to over US$1,700,000.
