Paraguay, Brazil dismantled 51 drug camps and destroyed over 500 tons of marijuana

The Paraguayan National Anti-Drug Secretariat (Senad), together with the Brazilian Federal Police and the Joint Task Force (FTC), destroyed more than 500 tons of marijuana during seven consecutive days of land and air raids as part of “Operation New Alliance”, carried out in Amambay.

The operation “Nueva Alianza XXXlll,” headed by prosecutor Celso Morales, covered 168 hectares and 51 camps where 504 tons of marijuana were destroyed. Losses for drug trafficking are increasing and have already surpassed the US$15,638,000 mark, reported Senad.

The production, storage, transport, and trafficking of marijuana for the market, mainly in Brazil, began in the camps. The last ones were detected in the areas known as Cerro Kuatia, and Rosalina, places taken advantage of by traffickers because of their extensive forests to generate the illicit processing phases.

The 168 hectares eradicated are equivalent to removing 504 tons of the drug from circulation; at the same time, 17,280 kilos of ready-to-package or packaged weed were destroyed.

So far, in 2022, drug production of some 1,159 hectares has been annulled; the largest fraction of this figure corresponds to the results of interventions based on the joint and shared responsibility between Paraguay and Brazil through the Alianza operations.

In seven days of work, losses were caused, amounting to US$ 15,638,000, which will increase as the operation continues.
