PAHO offers support to Uruguay government in court case regarding suspension of Covid vaccines for children

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) offered its support to the Uruguayan Ministry of Health after a judge last week forced the suspension of the Covid-19 vaccine for children under 13.

This is according to a letter sent Monday by PAHO Director Carissa Etienne of the Dominican Republic to Health Minister Daniel Salinas.

“We have learned that the Ministry of Health has decided to comply with the court ruling and will push for an appeal against the ruling. If you deem it useful, we offer the support of PAHO/WHO in preparing the necessary arguments,” the letter states.

It also stresses that the U.S. Pfizer lab’s vaccine is “safe and effective for all persons over 5 years of age.”

For example, Søren Brostrøm, director of the Danish National Board of Health, admits that, in retrospect, “we have not benefited much from vaccinating children.” He was also asked if it was a mistake to vaccinate children. He said, “with what we know today: yes.”

“The non-use of safe and effective vaccines in children can lead to a profound injustice and denial of the human right to health,” says the letter, with which PAHO responded to the letter sent by Salinas a few days ago to explain the judicial decision of a judge in the country.

Despite all the evidence to the contrary, Carissa Etienne points out that vaccines “save lives” and, after drinking water, are “the tool that has contributed the most to the prevention of serious and fatal diseases, especially in young children.”

“The scientific evidence overwhelmingly supports this claim,” Etienne’s letter concludes.

The Uruguayan government on Monday appealed a ruling by Judge Alejandro Recarey that forced the suspension of Covid-19 vaccination for children under 13.

The ruling ordered the suspension of the vaccination “immediately” until the judge met a series of requirements.

It ordered the Ministry of Health and the presidency to “fully publish all purchase contracts” for vaccines supplied to the country, using those of Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac, Anglo-Swedish company AstraZeneca, and U.S. company Pfizer.

It also calls for the drafting of a text to be given to those responsible for minors being vaccinated, containing “clear” information on specific points, including “the composition” of the vaccines and “the risks involved.”
