Outage in the security lighting system affects flights at Foz do Iguaçu Airport in Brazil
A technical problem with the runway lighting system affected a number of flights at Cataratas International Airport, in Foz do Iguaçu.
The beacon lights, which guide pilots in landing and takeoff procedures – mainly on night flights – were still not working around 1 pm this Wednesday (11), CCR Aeroportos, the airport operator, told Gazeta do Povo.
The system crash was identified on Tuesday morning (10) and, according to CCR, employees worked throughout the day trying to get the problem resolved, without success.

The lack of lighting meant that at least 13 take-off and landing operations had to be canceled at the terminal. The affected flights were scheduled for the night period.
Passengers on Azul, Gol and Latam flights affected by the problem had their tickets rescheduled for this Wednesday morning, since flights made during the daytime period were not affected by the outage.
Technicians continue to work on the system to restore the functioning of the beacon lights.
The concessionaire CCR Aeroportos confirmed to Gazeta do Povo that the origin of the problem has been identified, but if the breakdown is not remedied by early evening, new night flights may be affected.
