RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In a statement, streaming giant Netflix announced the start of its first feature film set in Uruguay and said that Caetano, also director of films “Un oso rojo” (2002) and “Crónica de una fuga” (2006), will be the project’s executive producer along with Luis Ara and Ignacio Jaunsolo, from Trailer Films and Ska Films companies.

The story will focus on Togo, the main character played by Alonso (known for his role as ‘El Pollo’ in the series “Okupas”), a car caretaker who must defend his territory – and the neighbors in the area – against threats from different drug traffickers in the Uruguayan capital who try to coerce him into working for them.

The cast will also include Néstor “Tito” Prieto (‘Carlos’ in the film “Joya”), Catalina Arrillaga, Luis Alberto Acosta, singer Marcos Da Costa, playwright José Pagano, Sabrina Valiente and Federico Morosini (‘Joselo’ in “Los tiburones”), among others.

“Coming back to work in Uruguay is very special to me. I feel this is a great opportunity to tell Togo’s story, a character that comes from my imagination, with whom I share values and whom I admire, while having the creative freedom and the support of Netflix to be able to do it,” Caetano said in statements to the press.

In addition, he admitted that he found it “a challenge” to tell “a story that happens despite everything.” “Something more universal, of a man defending what is his own, which is also what belongs to everyone. I always liked stories of overcoming and especially those that happen silently and invisibly before the eyes of most,” he added.

“At Netflix we are happy to be able to produce our first film in Uruguay, a country with a talented creative community and with stories that deserve to be told. Adrián Caetano is a great filmmaker and we are proud to work with him again on ‘Togo,'” added Netflix VP of Content for Latin America Francisco Ramos in the company’s announcement.
