Key Facts

  • The profit Net income rose 26% to R$159.6 million (about US$30.9 million) in the second quarter of 2026.
  • The revenue Net revenue slipped 2.7% to R$1,332.2 million (about US$258 million).
  • The core Adjusted EBITDA rose 4.9% to R$273.8 million (about US$53 million), a margin of 20.5%.
  • The half First-half net income climbed 31% to R$373.8 million (about US$72.4 million).
  • The payout Dividends and interest on capital reached R$298.9 million (about US$57.9 million) in the first half.

Brazil’s biggest engine-parts maker sold a little less this quarter, yet still sent more money to the bottom line. The trick was in the costs and the currency, not the showroom.

Mahle Metal Leve lifted second-quarter 2026 net income 26% to R$159.6 million (about US$30.9 million). The gain came even as sales dipped, with tighter costs and a positive financial result doing the heavy lifting.

What Mahle Metal Leve Reported

Mahle Metal Leve released its second-quarter numbers after the market closed on 12 August 2026. The company held its results call the next day.

Net income reached R$159.6 million, about US$29.6 million. That was up 26% from the same quarter a year earlier.

It was a strong bottom line for a quarter in which sales actually fell. That mix says a lot about how the business is being run.

A Profit Built on Costs, Not Sales

The striking part is that the profit rose while the top line fell. Revenue slipped 2.7%, so the extra earnings did not come from selling more parts.

Instead they came from tighter spending, a better product mix and a friendlier financial result. Management has leaned hard on productivity since a run of acquisitions in 2024.

For a supplier squeezed by a soft car market, wringing more profit from steady sales is the whole game. It is also a harder trick to pull off than simply riding a boom.

Revenue Slipped, but Only a Little

Net revenue eased 2.7% to R$1,332.2 million, about US$247 million. That is a modest dip, not a slump, for a business tied to the car cycle.

Demand at home held up better than sales abroad. The parts sold to carmakers and to repair shops kept the top line from falling further.

A shallow revenue decline is the kind a well-run supplier can absorb without much pain. The worry would be a steeper drop, and this was not that.

The Core Business Earned More

Adjusted EBITDA, a rough gauge of operating cash profit, rose 4.9% to R$273.8 million, about US$51 million. The EBITDA margin widened to 20.5%, up from 19.1% a year earlier.

Earning a wider margin on slightly lower sales points to real gains in efficiency. It shows the core operation is in good health, quite apart from any help lower down the accounts.

That is the number analysts tend to trust most.

The Currency Gave a Helping Hand

A meaningful swing came from the financial result, the line covering interest and currency effects. It turned positive this year, helped by currency gains and derivative positions.

A year earlier that same line had dragged on profit. This time it added to it, and the reversal was large.

That swing, together with leaner costs, is what pushed net income well ahead of last year.

Exports and Argentina Weighed on Sales

Not every market pulled its weight during the quarter. Exports were soft, and the neighbouring Argentine market slumped.

Argentine vehicle sales fell 23.1% over the period, a heavy drag on a company that ships parts across the region. Domestic aftermarket demand, the parts sold for repairs, also cooled a touch, trimming the top line further.

Even so, the replacement market remains the steadier half of the business.

A Reliable Dividend Payer

Mahle Metal Leve is prized by Brazilian investors for its generous payouts. In the first half it returned R$298.9 million, about US$55 million, in dividends and interest on capital.

The trailing dividend yield has run near 8% to 9%, high for the local market. Few industrial names on the B3 hand back cash so consistently.

That record is a big part of why the stock draws income-focused buyers, even in a tough year for carmakers.

The First Half in Full

Taken together, the six months look stronger than any single quarter. First-half net income climbed 31% to R$373.8 million, about US$69 million.

So even with revenue broadly flat, the company is keeping far more of what it earns. The improvement is about profitability, not growth.

That is a durable kind of progress, less exposed to the ups and downs of car sales.

Why High Interest Rates Matter Here

Brazil’s benchmark interest rate sits at about 15%, among the highest of any large economy. High rates squeeze car sales, since most vehicles are bought on credit.

That backdrop makes the resilient quarter more impressive. The company is growing profit into a stiff monetary headwind.

High rates also make a fat dividend more appealing, though safe government bonds now offer stiff competition for income.

What the Company Actually Makes

Mahle Metal Leve is Brazil’s leading maker of engine components. Its range covers pistons, bearings and filters, sold to carmakers and to the repair market.

It is the Brazilian arm of Germany’s MAHLE group, a global automotive supplier. That link gives it scale, technology and a foothold in export markets.

The mix of factory sales and steady replacement demand is what smooths its results through the car cycle.

What to Watch Next

Two forces will shape the coming quarters for the parts maker. Watch Brazilian vehicle production and the exchange rate, which swung its way this time.

The currency help that flattered this quarter can just as easily reverse. A calmer real would test how much of the gain is truly operational.

If costs stay lean and demand holds, the dividend that draws investors should keep flowing. For now, Mahle Metal Leve has shown it can grow profit even when the market will not grow for it.
