Lula da Silva decrees federal intervention in Brazil’s Federal District’s public security
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT, progressive-globalist) signed this Sunday (Jan. 8) a decree of federal intervention in the security of the Federal District.
The decision comes after protesters invaded the Planalto Palace, the National Congress, and the Supreme Court (STF).
The decision was announced in a statement by the president during a trip to Araraquara, in the interior of São Paulo.

“Whoever did this will be found and punished. Democracy guarantees the right to free speech but requires that people respect institutions. What they did today is unprecedented in the history of the country. That is why they must be punished,” said Lula.
The intervention will be in effect until Jan 31.
]The intervenor will be the executive secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Ricardo Garcia Cappelli.
With this, the public security of the Federal District will be under the federal government’s responsibility.
