A New Premium Health Plan for Brazil’s Wealthiest Patients

Hapvida, one of Brazil’s largest healthcare operators, will launch NotreDame Saúde as a dedicated premium line in August. The plan targets higher-income Brazilians who demand access to the country’s most prestigious private hospitals.

Members will be able to seek treatment at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, Hospital Sírio-Libanês, and HCor — institutions consistently ranked among Latin America’s best medical facilities. The offering also includes a private concierge service and a proprietary digital platform for appointments and records.

CEO Luccas Adib’s First Big Strategic Bet

The premium health plan launch is one of the earliest and most visible moves by Luccas Adib since he took over as Hapvida’s chief executive. It signals a clear intention to diversify revenue beyond the company’s traditional mass-market base.

Adib inherited a company built on vertical integration — owning hospitals, clinics, and labs to control costs. By opening the NotreDame line to external elite hospitals, he is betting that higher-margin premium clients will strengthen the group’s overall financial profile without cannibalising its core business.

How the Premium Tier Differs from Hapvida’s Core Plans

Hapvida’s existing network of 85 hospitals will continue serving its mass-market customers. The company has been clear that current plan holders will not be migrated or downgraded.

The NotreDame premium health plan instead creates a parallel offering. It combines the brand recognition of NotreDame Intermédica — acquired in the landmark 2022 merger — with access to hospitals Hapvida does not own, a departure from its historically closed-network model.

The Merger Legacy and the Push for Differentiation

Hapvida and NotreDame Intermédica completed their merger in 2022, creating a healthcare giant with millions of beneficiaries across Brazil. Since then, the combined group has launched integrated and national-coverage products to extract value from its scale.

The new premium tier represents a further evolution of that strategy. Rather than competing solely on price and volume, Hapvida is now segmenting its portfolio to capture spending from Brazil’s wealthiest households, who often pay out-of-pocket or hold legacy plans with smaller, high-end operators.

What the Premium Health Plan Means for Investors and the Market

For investors, the move signals that Hapvida is serious about improving its average revenue per user. Premium plans carry higher monthly premiums and typically attract clients with lower loss ratios — people who use healthcare proactively rather than only in emergencies.

Brazil’s private health insurance market has seen consolidation and margin pressure in recent years. A successful premium line could give Hapvida a competitive edge against rivals like Rede D’Or and Bradesco Saúde, both of which already serve the high-income segment aggressively.

The Latin America Read-Through

Across Latin America, private healthcare operators are increasingly segmenting their offerings to capture premium spending. The trend is visible in Mexico, Colombia, and Chile, where top-tier hospitals attract medical tourists and wealthy locals alike.

Hapvida’s move fits this regional pattern. For expats and international professionals living in São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro, a plan that includes Einstein and Sírio-Libanês closes a long-standing gap between local mass-market insurance and the expectations of those accustomed to private care in Europe or North America.

What to Watch Next

Pricing details and the full list of covered hospitals have not yet been released. Those numbers will determine how competitive the NotreDame premium health plan is against established high-end insurers.

Investors should also watch for any impact on Hapvida’s medical loss ratio in the quarters following the launch. A successful premium rollout would show up as higher average premiums without a proportional rise in claims, boosting margins across the group.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the new Hapvida premium health plan?

It is a high-end health insurance line called NotreDame Saúde, launching in August 2026. The plan gives members access to elite hospitals such as Einstein, Sírio-Libanês, and HCor, plus concierge service and a digital platform.

Will current Hapvida customers be affected by the new premium plan?

No. Hapvida has stated that existing customers will continue to be served by its own network of 85 hospitals.

The premium line is an additional offering aimed at a different, higher-income client segment.

Why is Hapvida launching a premium health plan now?

The launch is one of the first major strategic initiatives under new CEO Luccas Adib. It aims to diversify Hapvida’s revenue, capture higher-margin clients, and leverage the NotreDame brand recognition gained from the 2022 merger.
