Friday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Nugrooves is back for party number four, featuring Triple Crown DJs Nepal, Jonas Rocha and Mary Zander. The project is spearheaded by DJ Joca-san and David Tabalipa. The trio have found much success with each other after such memorable appearances at Noon and closing for Pillow Talk.
The Nugrooves party began in 2004 in São Paulo at the hands of DJ and producer Rodrigo Ulson aka “Trotter’, the owner of Royal Soul Records, the first Brazilian label dedicated to nufunk, nubreaks and nujazz. Joca Vidal aka Joca-san and David Tabalipa, members of Royal Soul, represent the label here in Rio. Joca Vidal states, “What we want is to show the fusion between funk and electronic music – that’s what its all about.”

Orquestra Voador e Quizomba (Lapa)
Orquestra Voador is made of fifteen percussionists, brass and wind instrumentalists, whose result is explosive. Rhythms such as rock, funk, jazz and pop fused with sambas, and maracatus infect the public and create such funky rhythms, one would be crazy if they didn’t dance. They are joined by Quizomba for this Carnaval hangover party.
