Rio Film Festival Presents Movies with Live Soundtrack Performances

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Tonight and tomorrow, October 11th and 12th, the Rio International Film Festival presents the “Rio, Pipoca e Biscoito” (Rio, Popcorn and Cookies) with diverse musical artists from Brazil’s MPB scene to perform movies’ soundtracks as well as other selections at Teatro Rival Petrobras, in Cinelândia, at 8PM.

Yesterday, Tuesday, October 10th, the Rio, Pipoca e Biscoito opening night hosted popular female artists Fabiana Cozza and Alcione.

Samba and MPB singer from São Paulo, Cozza performed “Ay Amor!”, inspired in the Cuban composer and pianist Bola de Nieve, and played “La Vie en Rose”, paying tribute to Olivier Dahan’s “Piaf, Hymn to Love” (2007).

Carioca singer Alcione performed compositions from her latest work, dedicated to the bolero music, in a intimate voice and guitar acoustic show.

Tonight, October 11th, singers Leila Maria, Zélia Duncan and cellist Jaques Morelenbaum will be starring at Teatro Rival’s stage. Owner of a powerful jazz voice, Leila Maria promises to bring musical masterpieces from both national and foreign cinemas, including compositions by Paul Simon, Cole Porter, Caetano Veloso and Zé Keti.

One of MPB’s renowned names, veteran Zélia Duncan will share the stage with musician Morelenbaum to present a teaser of their latest project, to be released by the end of October, dedicated to Brazilian composer Milton Nascimento. Their repertoire will also include songs from the Brazilian movie “Dona Flor e seus dois maridos” (1976).

Very diverse and promising attractions will close “Rio, Pipoca e Biscoito” tomorrow evening, with artists Silvia Machete, Rico Ayade, Caio Prado, João Fênix, Filipe Catto e Chicas taking part of the line up. Machete will pay tribute to the classic “The Sound of Music” (1965), while composer and singer Caio Prado will include the soundtrack of Almodovar’s “Talk to Her (2002) in his repertoire.

In his performance, singer Felipe Catto will bring Whitney Houston’s “I will always love you”, famous through the blockbuster “The Bodyguard” (1992). The trio As Chicas will close the event with the soundtrack from the renowned musical “Hair” (1979).

“Rio, Pipoca and Biscoito” is organized by Festival do Rio and Teatro Rival Petrobras, in partnership with Biscoito Fino, Brazilian record company known for promoting new Brazilian music artists in the market. Spectators who present a ticket from any Festival do Rio’s movie session will pay half price in the shows.
