Eco-friendly Market Run by Women Happens in Rio this Saturday

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – This Saturday, August 12th, Luís de Camões square, in Glória, hosts the sixteenth edition of “Feira Colméia” (Beehive Fair), from 8AM to 1PM. Run by female entrepreneurs, the market aims to promote the solidary economy with homemade products, music and a talk on the ayurveda medicine.

Over twenty stalls will be at the venue from 8AM. Natural cosmetics, biojewelry, bio-tampons, toys and ecological clothes are some of products offered by the participant entrepreneurs.

Among the confirmed brands are “Olhos da Terra”, with its mandala arts; “Ecco, mama”, selling ecological diapers; “Usawa Upcycling”, with clothes made of fabric leftovers; and “Chêro colorido”, offering natural essences.

The cultural activities start at 10AM with “Zonas Poéticas”, a poetry recital where everyone is invited to declaim. A “roda de capoeira Angola” will happen at 10:30 PM, followed by a circle talk on the millenial wisdom of the Indian ayuveda, at 11AM. Singer Charlotte Dalfon closes the line up with a pocket show at 12PM.

Even though “Feira Colméia” does not offer culinary stalls, Feira Orgânica da Glória (Glória’s Organic Fair) will be happening right next to it. There, one can find great fresh organic food from local producers and homemade products like cakes, cookies, jams, cheeses and sauces.

The “Feira Colméia” is an initiative founded by Rede Colméia de Mulheres (Beehive Network of Women), gathering both cis and transgender women who are engaged in turning the economic entrepreneurship into a more collaborative and sustainable environment. Created to empower and strengthen women’s trade, “Feira Colméia” happens every second Saturday of the month.
