Economy minister says Brazil will be the largest investment frontier in 2021

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Minister of Economy Paulo Guedes said that Brazil will be the “largest investment frontier in 2021” mentioning priorities such as railroads, coastal shipping, concessions, Eletrobras and Correios that should begin to progress with the new center-right leadership in the National Congress.

“Brazil will be the largest investment frontier in 2021. No country will offer as many interesting investment opportunities,” he emphasized in a live stream.

According to him, unblocking investments will enable a sustainable resumption of growth. He added that Arthur Lira (Chamber of Deputies) and Rodrigo Pacheco’s (Senate) leadership has been “brilliant”. The new regulatory framework for natural gas is expected to be examined next week.

“We need to point out that temporary price increases will not become permanent and generalized price increases,” said Guedes. According to the Minister, the increase in the price of food and building materials is the result of the rising dollar and high commodity prices on the one hand, and the emergency aid that “was powerful and filled the supermarkets” on the other.

“The price increase is sectoral and transitory. It is a transitory price shock. We need to point out that this will not become a permanent and generalized increase,” he emphasized, pointing out that this indication came with the Central Bank’s autonomy.

As in other times, the Minister said that “politics sets the timing for reforms.” He thanked the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, and of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira, for having managed to unblock major agendas in such a short period of time, mentioning the Emergency Proposed Constitutional Amendment (PEC) as well as the Central Bank’s autonomy.
