City councilor and son shot dead in Rio de Janeiro

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – City councilor Danilo Francisco da Silva and his son Gabriel da Silva were found dead inside a car in Duque de Caxias, a city in Baixada Fluminense (metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro).

The city councilor killed was the target of police investigations for the alleged organization of an extermination group and involvement with militias in the region, as well as murders, land grabbing, extortion, and threats.

According to the police, Danilo was suspected of the murders of Isaaque Almeida de Lima and Alex Silva de Bem, and the attempted murder of Fernando Leandro da Silva.

The Baixada Fluminense Homicide Precinct (DHBF) has opened an investigation into the circumstances of the crime against Danilo and his son.

Before being elected with 6,080 votes in the last municipal election, as the city’s 6th most voted candidate, Danilo had already served as city councilor in Caxias until April 2020, when he then became deputy.
