Chinese carmaker introduces the concept of a vehicle that can fly and drive
Chinese automaker Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) showcased a concept flying car that can also operate on roads, joining the growing number of companies exploring the development of this futuristic mode of transportation.
Named GOVE, the one-seater vehicle combines a passenger drone with six rotor blades and a four-wheeled chassis.
The drone and chassis can separate to enable flight. During a press demonstration, the vehicle successfully flew with a passenger on board.
The rechargeable chassis can be remotely operated and is designed for shared usage.

While pricing and production timelines were not disclosed, a GAC executive mentioned that commercialization might be a long-term process.
Passenger drone regulations are not yet established in China, despite the country’s growing use of drones in photography and agriculture.
GAC aims to meet the potential demand for flying cars, particularly in southern China where major cities like Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macau are clustered near the coast and expansive river delta.
In addition to flying vehicles, GAC is committed to accelerating the development of advanced technologies to compete in China’s competitive automobile market.
Recently, the company unveiled a hybrid vehicle that combines a hydrogen engine with electric power and is exploring ammonia-based engines.
GAC’s introduction of the road-and-air capable vehicle reflects the industry’s ongoing exploration of innovative transportation solutions, although practical implementation and regulatory considerations are expected to pose challenges on the path to widespread adoption.
