Chile’s Health Minister Admits Country’s “Very Complex” Coronavirus Situation

By · January 9, 2021 · 2 min read

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Chile’s Minister of Health Enrique Paris admitted that the country is today in a ‘very complex’ situation, in view of the seemingly unstoppable rise in Covid-19 cases.

The minister expressed his concern after learning on Friday, January 9th, that only in the last day there were another 4,201 infections registered, the highest number since June 28th, when the country was at the critical curve of the first wave of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

“The important increase in the number of cases today worries us a lot, because if this is added to the progressive growth of cases, it could mean that we are facing a very complex situation at a national level,” the minister stated.

Paris explained that the upsurge is largely due to the accumulation of people who did not go to the doctor during the holidays at the end of 2020 and by a greater active search for potential patients.

However, he warned that before drawing conclusions one should wait for the figures to consolidate, which could happen by the middle of next week, and insisted that the population maintain sanitary measures such as the use of facemasks, physical distancing, and frequent hand washing.
