Chilean trade amounted to US$153.743 billion between January and September

Chilean trade exchange amounted to US$153.743 billion between January and September of this year, 14 percent more than in the same period of 2021, announced the Directorate of Studies of the Undersecretariat of International Economic Relations (Subrei) today, Tuesday.

The study highlights that between January and September of this year, Chilean exports increased to US$73.228 billion, a growth of 5.5 percent over the same period in 2021.

Imports totaled US$80.514 billion, an increase of 23.9 percent over the same period.

The head of the Subrei, José Miguel Ahumada, said in a statement that in the first nine months of 2022, the number of exporting companies and the value of their shipments increased again.

“However, we know that we must continue to work to reach or even exceed the levels before the pandemic (of the new coronavirus),” he added.

For the official, small and medium-sized enterprises, cooperatives and women-owned businesses “are a central pillar of our work agenda, which maintains a high commitment to strengthening ties with foreign markets and further participation in strategic alliances.”

According to the report, the South American country’s export momentum continues to be supported by non-copper supply and increased shipments of lithium, salmon, fertilizers, iodine, wood fiberboard, and poultry meat.

Ahumada also stressed that “it is crucial to strengthen the country’s digital infrastructure and provide access to all companies to digitize their export processes, incorporating new technologies that will help them increase the value of their shipments, whether goods or services.”
