Brazil’s ANAC confirms concern with Covid and Influenza; monitors cases in airline sector

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) reported that it is monitoring cases of respiratory diseases in pilots, flight attendants and other professionals in the airline industry.

ANAC’s concern in notifying the Ministry of Health about the increase in cases of flu and Covid-19 among crew was reported on Thursday, January 6.

In a note, the agency responsible for regulating airline flights in Brazil said that “in order to anticipate the potential impact on aviation and assist the airlines in their action plan, the agency had been in talks with airline representatives, airports, concessionaires, Air Transportation Support Services Companies (ESATAs) and health and sanitary control agencies.”

The agency states that it has been working to preserve the health of professionals and passengers who work and use air transport. In addition, it monitors the measures implemented by airlines to minimize the impact of flight delays and cancellations.

On Thursday, Azul reported that 10% of the company’s flights scheduled for January were affected by the medical leave of its crew. Gol also recorded cases but said they had no impact on their roster. LATAM said that there were no changes in flights and did not comment on potential cases among the company’s employees.

According to ANAC, “passengers whose flights are delayed or cancelled will be entitled to assistance from the airlines, as provided in Resolution 400/2016.”

ANAC advises passengers to monitor flight confirmation through the airline’s available services such as apps, website and call center.

“To avoid any inconvenience before or after the trip, it is important that passengers be aware of their rights and duties and follow the information provided in the carrier’s agreement.”
