Brazilian coffee exports rise 4.5%

Coffee exports from Brazil, the world’s leading producer and exporter of the bean rose 4.5 percent in September compared to the same month last year, the Council of Coffee Exporters (Cecafé) said Tuesday.

The country sold 3,386,373 60-kilogram bags abroad in September, compared to 3,239,972 bags in the same month of 2021.

Cecafé said in São Paulo that exports fell 3.9 percent in the first nine months of 2022 compared to the January-September 2021.

The company said it achieved record sales of US$805.5 million in September, a 49.8 percent year-on-year increase.

Cecafé president Guenter Häusler said exports have increased despite logistical problems caused by the lack of containers in the global maritime trade.

The main buyers of Brazilian coffee were the United States, Germany, Italy, Belgium, and Japan.
