Brazil Records 4,205 Deaths and 61,888 Infections from Covid-19 (April 26th)
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The coronavirus disease has already infected 61,888 people in Brazil, killing 4,205. The numbers are from this Sunday’s report by the Ministry of Health. In the preceding balance, on Saturday, there were 58,509 cases of the disease and 4,016 deaths.

Mortality, that is, the number of people who died in relation to those who were known to be infected with the disease, stands at 6.79 percent. There were 189 new deaths, an increase of 4.71 percent compared to Saturday. The number of new cases was 3,379, an increase of 5.78 percent compared to the preceding day.
The Ministry of Health also reported that there are 1,322 more deaths under investigation, which may yet be counted as having been caused by the novel coronavirus. Still, according to the portfolio, of the 61,888 cases, 30,152 are from recovered patients and 27,531 from others in follow-up. The remainder – 4,205 – are patients who died.

São Paulo is still the most affected state, with 20,715 infections and 1,700 deaths. Next is Rio de Janeiro, with 7,111 infections and 645 deaths.
The states with the highest number of deaths after São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are: Pernambuco (415), Ceará (327), Amazonas (304), Maranhão (112), and Pará (100).
Evolution of Covid-19
On Sunday, the growth rate of cases and deaths slowed compared to the three preceding days. However, as the Ministry of Health has already explained on a number of occasions, a lower increase is normal on weekends. The accumulated cases are eventually counted at the start of the week. The past week saw a different dynamic because there was a holiday last Tuesday.

- April 21st (Tuesday): 2,498 new cases and 166 new deaths;
- April 22nd (Wednesday): 2,678 new cases and 165 new deaths;

- April 24th (Friday): 3,503 new cases and 357 new deaths;
- April 25th (Saturday): 5,514 new cases and 346 new deaths;
- April 26th (Sunday): 3,379 new cases and 189 new deaths.
