Brazil Politics - Brazil

Parliamentary inquiry of organized crime will put government against the wall in Brazil’s Rio Grande do Norte

By · March 30, 2023 · 2 min read

By Yasmin Alencar

The opening of a Mixed Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPMI) to investigate the advance of criminal organizations all over the country, especially in Rio Grande do Norte, can check the performance of the PT (progressive-globalist) government in that state.

The governor of Rio Grande do Norte, Fátima Bezerra (PT), is one of the main allies of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

The request is an initiative of federal congress members Coronel Meire (PL-PE), Delegado Ramagem (PL-RJ), Deltan Dallagnol (Podemos-PR), and senators Styvenson Valentim (Podemos-RN), Hamilton Mourão (Republicans-RS) and Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE).

To Brasil Sem Medo media, Girão said that the signatures for the CPMI started being collected on Tuesday night.

The CPMI aims to investigate how criminal organizations work and their links to homicides and drug trafficking.

With the result of the CPMI, the parliamentarians should propose legislative changes and actions to prevent crime.

Rio Grande do Norte has recently suffered from dozens of criminal attacks, gunfire, and arson in public buildings, stores, and vehicles.

The ‘Sindicato do Crime’ (Crime Syndicate), a branch of the PCC in the state, coordinated the attacks.
