Neymar to Face Assault Charges in France Lodged by Stadium Fan

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Only one day after learning of the dismissal of the rape case against him, Neymar may again be forced to deal with the courts, this time in France.

According to a report in the French newspaper “L’Équipe”, a fan in the stadium, who was attacked by the Brazilian striker during the French Cup final match, in April this year, has filed charges against Neymar over the incident.

At the time, the Brazilian star was climbing the stairs following the defeat in the competition when he punched the man who was taunting him.

Neymar’s reaction was caught on the broadcasters’ cameras, as well as on several supporters’ cell phones in the vicinity at the time of the assault.

After the incident, the Brazilian striker used his Instagram profile to acknowledge his mistake but explaining that his attitude had been a reaction to provocations.

After the story’s broad repercussions, the attacked supporter initially expressed his intention to meet the Brazilian striker to “appease the situation”.

However, the predicament ended differently, as the 29-year-old man, identified only as “Nelson,” decided to take the case to court.

“We are disappointed that Bobigny’s Public Prosecutor’s Office was totally indifferent to this deed, whereas if my client had attacked Neymar the same way, justice would undoubtedly have been ruthlessly trampled”.

“If a Public Prosecutor rejects this complaint, it would mean that anybody could be beaten up at any time over a shallow or scornful observation without fear of being prosecuted,” said Philippe Ohayon, Nelson’s lawyer.
