Brazil Wins Four Golds in one Day with More than Ten Pan Am Games Medals
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Sunday, August 4th, was a very positive day for Brazil at this year’s Pan American Games, held in Lima, Peru. Athletes secured over ten medals in various categories, from athletics to surfing, including canoeing. By Sunday evening, August 4th, the day’s victories had included four gold, two silver, and five bronze medals.

Brazil’s representation thus cemented the second place in the overall standings, with 21 gold, 16 silver, and 32 bronze medals. The country is behind only the United States, with 52 gold medals. In the following ranked positions are Mexico (19 gold), Canada (17), Colombia (14), Cuba (14) and Argentina (12).
Brazil climbed twice to the top of the podium in slalom canoeing: with Ana Sátila in the women’s canoe and with Pedro “Pepê” Gonçalves in the men’s kayak. Sátila won her second championship, as she had also won at the Toronto Pan in 2015.
Besides, Felipe Borges came in third and won bronze in the men’s canoe race. In the women’s canoe, Omira Estácia took silver, but was disqualified and did not get to the podium.
Swimmer Ana Marcela went to the top of the podium in the 10-kilometer women’s open water marathon race. In this category, Viviane Jungblut came in third and secured bronze. Also in the waters, Chloé Calmon climbed higher in the longboard. Nicole Pacelli finished third in the female Stand Up Paddle category.
In athletics, Caio Bonfim took silver in the 20-kilometer male march, and Erica Rocha de Sena took bronze in the same category.
Brazil won the silver medal in the team competition and secured bronze in the individual category with Carlos Parro in horseback riding.
