Brazilian Government announces 7.42% increase in the minimum wage in 2023

The Brazilian government announced on Thursday an increase in the minimum wage of 7.42% starting in 2023, from the current R$1,212 (US$228) to R$1,302 (US$245).

The Official Gazette of the Union published on Monday a decree signed by the president, Jair Bolsonaro, with the increase in the minimum wage, although it must still be endorsed by Congress.

This is the first time during Bolsonaro‘s four years in office that the minimum wage has risen above expected inflation. According to the Brazilian government, inflation this year will be 5.81%.
