Brazil: Gasoline and power price hikes account for over 1/3 of IPCA-15 in 2021

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - The rise in the price of only two items in the household basket in 2021 was responsible for over 1/3 of the forecast for official inflation, which reached double digits this year.

The result is the highest for the end of the year since 2015, reported the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

Gasoline soared 49.59% in 2021, the item with the greatest impact on the IPCA-15, 2.42 percentage points. Electricity rose 27.34%, the second highest impact, 1.20 percentage points.
