October Kicks Off with Heat Wave in Rio; Temperatures to Exceed 40°C

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Thursday, the peak temperature should reach 40°C (104°F). On Friday, thermometers should mark 41°C. Over the weekend, a cold front will lower the temperature. On Saturday, October 3rd, rain should occur. The city experienced a record 40.2°C for the year last Sunday.

Relief will come over the weekend with the coming of a cold front in the state bringing rain, according to Climatempo. Saturday will be overcast, with maximum temperatures below 30°C.

Rainfall

The forecast points to rainfall in the state’s southern, hilly and lake regions. In the North of the state, the weather should remain dry and hot.

Rainfall is also expected on Saturday afternoon in the capital and the south coast. In addition, winds should be moderate to strong in coastal areas, with gusts that may range from 60 to 80 km/h.

Heat

Eight days into spring, the city of Rio is experiencing intense heat days. Mid last week thermometers marked close to 40°C. There was some relief, but on Sunday, September 27th, thermometers marked 40.2ºC, the year’s heat record.
