Total foreign exchange flow in Brazil positive in year to August, says central bank
Foreign exchange flow in the year to Aug. 12 was positive at US$21.870 billion, the central bank announced this Wednesday, Aug. 17. In the same period last year, the result was positive at US$17.763 billion, and in the entire year 2021, there was a net inflow of US$6.134 billion.
With the new update, data on foreign exchange flows are up to date after a four-month delay due to the central bank server strike that ended in early July.
Net outflows through the financial channel amounted to US$7.973 billion in 2022 through Aug. 12. The result is the result of inflows of US$342.342 billion and outflows of US$350.315 billion.
This segment includes direct and portfolio investments abroad, profit remittances, and interest payments.

In foreign trade, the cumulative annual balance through Aug. 12 was positive at US$29.843 billion, with imports at US$142.188 billion and exports at US$172.031 billion.
Exports include US$23.217 billion in Advances on Exchange Contracts (ACC), US$39.556 billion in Anticipated Payments (PA), and US$109.257 billion in other receipts.
AUGUST
After ending July with net inflows of US$1.834 billion, the country recorded a favorable foreign exchange flow of US$901 million in August through Aug. 12.
Net inflows of USD 1.703 billion were recorded through the financial channel during the period. The positive partial result comes after five months of outflows through the financial channel. In August, there were inflows of US$18.085 billion and outflows of US$16.382 billion through Aug. 12.
In foreign trade, the August balance through Aug. 12 was down US$801 million, with imports of US$8.336 billion and exports of US$7.535 billion. Exports include US$882 million in ACC, US$1.285 billion in Anticipated Payment, and US$5.368 billion in other entries.
WEEK
The foreign exchange flow registered for Brazil last week (from Aug. 8 to 12) was positive at US$156 million, the Central Bank reported.
The financial channel registered net inflows of US$762 million this week, made up of inflows of US$9.493 billion and outflows of US$8.731 billion.
In foreign trade, the balance was negative by US$607 million last week, with imports of US$4.297 billion and exports of US$3.690 billion.
Exports include US$457 million in advances on barter contracts, US$679 million in PAs, and US$2.554 billion in other receipts.
