Uruguay, Chile and Brazil are the most expensive countries in Latin America in terms of gasoline prices

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The increase in the price of gasoline, which reached a record level in 2021 and continues this year, has become an almost permanent pressure factor for consumers.

And the outlook is not bright given the conflict between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States, which has led to oil prices exceeding US$100 per barrel in recent days.

While the effects are widespread and have translated into inflationary pressures worldwide, in the case of Chile, a net importer of crude oil, the country ranks second in the region with the highest gasoline prices.

According to GlobalPetrolprices data, Uruguayans pay the most at US$1.705 per liter, followed by Chileans at US$1.350 per liter and Brazilians at US$1.290 per liter.

In between are Peru, Paraguay, and Argentina, while the lowest values are found in hydrocarbon-producing countries such as Ecuador, Colombia, and Bolivia.

For example, Colombians pay US$0.606 per liter, far less than half that of Chileans.

The list is completed by Venezuela, which at US$0.025 per liter is the lowest cost country in the region.
