Lasso’s government reduces Ecuador’s poverty rate by more than 7%.

Official figures from the Government of Ecuador show that the income poverty index in the South American country fell by more than 7% in the last year, according to the Minister of Economic and Social Inclusion, Esteban Bernal, in an interview with EFE.

According to Bernal, the government of Guillermo Lasso has focused on assisting two million households living in vulnerable situations in Ecuador, implementing an approach that has prioritized the reactivation of the economy in the post-pandemic period, but at the same time putting into practice social policies to assist needy sectors.

Nevertheless, a June measurement by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) showed that income poverty in Ecuador had dropped from 32.2% to 25% during the last year.

Lasso has also managed to reduce the extreme poverty rate in the South American nation. His predecessor in office, Lenin Moreno, left the country with 14.7% extreme poverty, which in Lasso’s time has been reduced to 10.7%.
