Mexican low cost carrier Volaris inaugurates regular flghts to and from Colombia

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – With the arrival of flight VOI312 from Mexico City, Mexican low-cost carrier Volaris officially inaugurated its operation in Colombia on Wednesday, October 6.

At a press conference, Holger Blankenstein, Executive Vice President of Volaris, commented, “We have long seen enormous potential in the Colombian market. That’s why we are excited to know that, starting today, we will connect friends and family with a disruptive and innovative proposal that will bring Colombians the best of the ultra-low-cost model in one of the most modern fleets on the continent”.

With this operation, the airline and the Colombian authorities are betting on the reactivation of tourism and strengthening the market between the two countries. “We have a great opportunity to stimulate tourism in one of the most visited regions, Colombia and the Mexican Caribbean. Likewise, it should be noted that more than 187,000 Colombians visited Mexico between January and August 2021,” Blankenstein concluded.

Gilberto Salcedo Ribero, vice president of tourism of ProColombia, said, “The international air reactivation in Colombia is a reality. An example is that Volaris arrives to connect us with key markets to promote sustainable, reliable, and high-quality Colombian tourism experiences. These new routes are part of the 31 announced, a significant achievement compared to 2019 when 17 new routes began operating.”

Finally, Andrés Ortega, general manager of OPAIN, highlighted the relevance of the start of operations of these two routes that will be “key to strengthening air connectivity in one of the most dynamic markets in the Americas”.
