The director of the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (INPEC) of Colombia, Daniel Fernando Gutiérrez, reported that in the midst of a prisoner riot in the Tumaco prison, several guard officials had been taken hostage. Local authorities are responding to the situation.
"We regret to inform public opinion of a difficult situation that is occurring at this time in the Tumaco facility. Apparently, some prisoners are holding a riot and want to escape; it seems that at that moment they are detaining one of our officials" confirmed the director.
