PT Are Preparing to Rule Brazil Again in 2022, Says ex-President Lula

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Ex-president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said yesterday that the PT (Workers’ Party) is preparing to win the 2022 general elections and reconquer the presidency of Brazil. Lula made this statement in the form of a message to the people who, in his words, are afraid of the party.

“For those who are afraid of the PT, know that we are preparing to return in 2022 to rule this country and this starts by winning important city halls,” the ex-president said in a speech during a meeting of the party’s National Directorate, produced and broadcast via YouTube. Later this year, in November, there will be elections for mayor and city councilor.

Lula said he feels the PT has restored its will to fight, “the strength to fight for the right things, which at times it seemed we had lost,” he said. “The PT is re-emerging on the political scene. The work we’re doing shows that the PT is more alive than ever”, he said.

The ex-president used as examples of this trend the actions of leftist legislators in the Chamber of Deputies in approving the extension of the FUNDEB (Fund for Maintenance and Development of Basic Education) this week and the preparation by party leaders of proposals for the economic rebound in Brazil.

One of such projects, the ‘Mais Bolsa Família’ (More Family Grant), was presented yesterday at the Directorate meeting and should soon reach the Congress for discussion. “Let’s show that the PT knew what to do in the past, knows what to do in the present, and is preparing to do more and more in the future,” Lula said.
