RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – TV host Luciano Huck, one of the most popular names among possible presidential candidates in 2018, never stood as a candidate, but the prospect sparked a stir in the political milieu.
A number of parties are now preparing to take part in the 2022 race, and the name of the Globo entertainer is once again a possibility, at least for the “Cidadania” political party.
According to the UOL website, the party’s president and Chamber leader, Roberto Freire and Daniel Coelho, respectively, have reopened the debate on the issue.
An opinion poll conducted last week showed that Globo’s host is ahead of João Doria, the governor of São Paulo, in terms of voting intentions. Huck holds eleven percent and Bolsonaro is only two points ahead, with thirteen percent.
Roberto Freire has, therefore, declared his intention to have the celebrity on the “Cidadania” slate: “The prospect of Huck being a presidential candidate in 2022 is real. Cidadania is one of the alternatives he is most likely to welcome if he decides to run for office.”
“As I know him, I can attest that he has a refined culture, a substance in his reasoning and a political conception that well represents our background: a social democratic vision that is the result of a concern with the social issue and the clear stance of a progressive liberal,” he said.
“We should work with such scenario which could mean an effective prominence to our Cidadania,” he concluded.
