Brazil’s Navy to conduct two test firings of its Mansup missile in 2022

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Brazilian Navy reported that the third stage of the Mansup missile project has reached 60% of the production of the Guidance, Navigation, and Control System (SGNC) and about 90% of the telemetry, technology that allows measuring remotely and in real-time the parameters necessary to evaluate the operation and performance of the missile.

Thus, two launches of the Mansup are planned throughout 2022 to test the subsystems already produced and the qualification tests, in which more than 200 parameters of the missile will be monitored during each flight.

The project’s current stage consists of production (transformation of the prototype into a product) and qualification of the missile (set of tests to check compliance with project requirements), in collaboration with the companies Siatt, Omnisys, Avibras, and the Ezute Foundation.

The schedule for this phase, scheduled for completion in 2025, continues to move forward with the need for additional contracting. The program is approaching its final phase of development, a critical stage where any shortfall or contingency in the necessary investments could jeopardize all the work done.

The Mansup features all-Brazilian technology, using solutions found by the Brazilian defense industry to meet the requirements imposed by the Brazilian Navy.

The knowledge gained during the project and the architectural model adopted to allow for possible upgrades to be carried out safely within two years.

Once the missile is approved and put into production, keeping it up to date throughout its service life will be one of the many competencies developed by the Brazilian Defense and Security Industrial Base.

It is important to note that the Mansup is one of the armament options onboard the Tamandaré Class frigates, the first of which, which gives its name to the class, is scheduled to begin construction next September in Itajaí (Santa Catarina).
