Bolsonaro Supporters Rally Against Moro, Congress and Supreme Court

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – With slogans and banners attacking former Minister of Justice Sérgio Moro, the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and the National Congress, supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro gathered in Brasília on Saturday afternoon, May 9th, in an antidemocratic rally summoned on social networks.

On top of a sound car displaying a banner with the words “STF Dictator”, leaders called for the return of the military regime and the shutdown of the National Congress. On the microphone, they even called for the ouster of governors.

“Go ahead, police family. We want the army on the streets. Oust the governors, oust the Supreme Court. Brazil supports Jair Bolsonaro. Oust Doria, oust Alcolumbre. You’re a national disgrace. Brazil has had enough of you,” a demonstrator said, under the applause of supporters.

On the side of the lawn, demonstrators also crowded around sound cars, playing army anthems. The rally disregarded all of the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recommendations.

Most supporters were not wearing protective masks. They also attacked the press and prayed for the President on the microphone.

The movement leaders at one point urged Bolsonarists to “hunt” for leftists infiltrated in the rally. “We know you’re here. We will find you and turn you over to the police.”

At 1 PM, part of demonstrators started heading towards the Planalto Palace, where they said they would wait for the arrival of President Jair Bolsonaro to greet the rally.

They were disappointed and dispersed after he failed to appear, heading rather to a jetski outing on Lake Paranoá.
