RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – President Jair Bolsonaro on Tuesday said the country should close this year with a positive balance of 3 million formal jobs despite the economic hardship and the lingering effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Despite everything, we should end our third year of government with a positive balance of approximately 3 million new jobs,” said the President at a ceremony to sign the authorization terms for use of radio frequencies by the 5G auction band winning companies.

“We are not the ones who create jobs… This employment comes from the private sector, and our government’s main job is not to hinder those who want to produce.”

Brazil opened 253,083 formal jobs in October, according to the General Registry of Employed and Unemployed (CAGED) released by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.

The year-to-date shows a balance of 2,645,974 jobs created, compared to a balance of 278,997 jobs closed in the same period in 2020.
