Bolivia: YPFB registers record price of US$20 per million BTU in natural gas sales to Argentina
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The state-owned company Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) recorded a record price of US$20 per million British Thermal Unit (BTU) in the sale of natural gas to Argentina, an amount never before reached in the commercial relationship with that country.
In this context, YPFB’s executive president, Armin Dorgathen, stated that “we have raised prices in the commercialization of natural gas, we set a record in the sale of gas in January, and we have broken it again in February, March, April, and May. We have started to sell to Argentina 14 million cubic meters per day (MMmcd) of gas that many pseudo analysts doubted we were going to do it; we are doing it”.
“We are now sending 14 MMmcd to Argentina at a record price of US$20 per million BUT which had never been sold before; the most sold before was US$10 or US$11 maximum.”

He added that the sale of gas to Argentina, whose volumes increased as of May 1, 2022, will generate US$100 million for Bolivia during the winter period (until September), resources that will be distributed to state universities, municipal governments, and governors of the country to develop infrastructure, education, and health projects.
The commercialization of energy to Argentina is part of the sixth addendum that came into effect on May 1 of this year. On April 7, the presidents of Bolivia, Luis Arce Catacora, and Argentina, Alberto Fernández, signed a Joint Declaration regarding energy issues and the political situation in the region.
