Audiovisual Arts Event, VideoAtaq, Returns to Rio de Janeiro

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Friday, June 19th, the Cidade das Artes in Barra da Tijuca will host the audiovisual arts event, VideoAtaq. For the ninth edition of the event, performers will include French duo NONOTAK, Robertinho de Recife and Fhorggio, Brazilian band Biltre, DJs from the B.L.E.S.S party and the Manie Gang DJs.

The event was created by VJ Jodele Larcher, one of the biggest names in video mapping in the city and the producer behind the collective of VJs known as Az0ia Labs. With the goal of showcasing performers that blend technology, art and music, Larcher told The Rio Times in 2013 that he saw the event as a way to put “Rio on the world map of creative and inventive performances, out of the box, bringing eye candy to the Cariocas.”

The international headliner for this year’s edition, NONOTAK, a french duo consisting of Noemi Schipfer and Takami Nakamoto, is known for visual shows which include mapped projections that synchronize with their melodic, electronic musical productions.

Co-headling the event will be Brazilian guitarist, Robertinho de Recife. Joined by his son, Fhorggio on keyboards, de Recife will present, “Batizada de Eletrolight” (Baptized in Electrolight), a special multimedia performance that combines sounds, energy and lights.

In the outside area of the venue during the night, the band Biltre will perform, accompanied by the bloco Bananobike Sound System. The bloco is known for helium-voiced karaoke and attracted over 20,000 people to their Carnival event earlier this year.

Additionally during the event, the DJs from the B.L.E.S.S. party will spin the best of Jamaican and Caribbean sounds and to close out the night and the event, the Manie Gang DJs will spin the best of electro-swing, swing, electro, blues, new jazz and many other retro beats.

Throughout the night Folkatrua VJs with Guigga Tomaz and Super Praia will provide visuals and will be videomapping.
