Argentina reports 14,850 new cases of Covid-19 and 405 deaths

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Argentina reported 14,850 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, bringing the total number of positives to 4,961,880. At the same time, deaths rose to 106,447 after 405 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

The figures reveal a rise compared to the positives recorded this Monday when 11,183 cases were reported.

Argentina registered a daily record number of cases last May 27, when 41,080 cases were reported, while the highest number of deaths in a single day was verified last June 21, with 792 deaths on that day.

In the province of Buenos Aires, 4,179 cases were reported on Tuesday, while in the central province of Cordoba, 2,734 positive cases were recorded; in the province of Santa Fe (center), 1,240 cases were reported, and in the capital of Argentina, 883 cases were reported.

According to the official report, 4.6 million patients have already been discharged. The number of people with a confirmed diagnosis of covid-19 who remain in intensive care units on Tuesday was 3,767, well below the record of 7,969 on average June 14.

The occupancy rate of intensive care beds for all pathologies is 53.6% at the national level and 51.8% if only Buenos Aires and its populous periphery are considered.

So far, 19.6 million tests have been carried out in Argentina to detect the virus, of which 106,672 were performed this Tuesday.

Argentina experienced a dizzying increase in covid-19 cases in April and May, with a very high level of bed occupancy in intensive care units. Still, the upward curve of positives began to ease in June, following new sanitary restrictions.

Last week, the first cases of the delta variant were reported, with no link to travelers from other countries.

As it seeks to leave behind the second wave of covid-19, Argentina, with some 45 million inhabitants, continues its vaccination campaign against the coronavirus, initiated at the end of last December.

According to official data released on Tuesday, 32.6 million doses have been applied so far.

25.3 million people received the first dose of the vaccine, while 7.3 million people have already been inoculated with the second dose.
