Sadly, Albert T. Healey, OBE ,passed away on the morning of Saturday, the 1st of October after a long bout of illness. As Chairman, Albert was a driving force in the British Chamber of Commerce of Rio de Janeiro for a number of years in the 80s before he retired to rural England. His hard work for British business in Brazil earned him the OBE and the respect of all those who worked with him and of the British community at large.
Albert was also known for his outstanding work as President of the American Club of Rio de Janeiro, which he restored after a major fire destroyed much of the premises. Albert came to work in Brazil in the fifties for the Rio Flour Mill and from there joined Arthur Anderson before becoming president of Walter Kiddy. In the sixties and early seventies he worked in the UK and the Middle East before returning to Brazil again in 1974 with ITT and later Mathew Hall.
Before retirement, Albert built up his own management consulting company, Healey Associates, which continued to operate in Rio de Janeiro for many years after his retirement. He is survived by his wife Vivienne Healey, with whom he shared 53 very happy years, and by his three sons, Michael, Philip and Bruce and by his six grandchildren. May he rest in peace.
