Venezuela: A sector of the opposition calls for the cessation of the “interim government” of Juan Guaidó

Parties of a sector of the Venezuelan opposition have requested this Wednesday in a statement the cessation of the “interim government” of opposition leader Juan Guaidó, after considering that after almost four years of his proclamation he has not met the expected objectives.

The leader of the Primero Justicia party, Alfonzo Marquina, made the statement at a press conference speaking on behalf of 69 (of the 112) opposition legislators who supported Guaidó’s proclamation in 2019. These belong to the opposition parties Acción Democrática (AD), Primero Justicia (PJ), Un Nuevo Tiempo (UNT) and the Movimiento Progresista de Venezuela (MPV).

“The interim government is not the raison d’être of the democratic struggle, it was a necessary instrument at the time, but today we are naming a commission for the protection of all assets,” Marquina clarified, highlighting everyone’s duty to “assume responsibilities”, since “The internal government does not appear to achieve the objectives in Venezuela.”

The opposition request also comes one day before the meeting of the National Assembly, elected at the end of 2015 and considered the counterweight to the regime led by Nicolás Maduro, and where the final resolution regarding the replacement of the interim leader is expected.

Guaidó, who came to be recognized by more than fifty countries as “interim president” in 2019, has seen how his political weight abroad has been dwindling every year.
